Magnifica Fabbrica, Milano hide text
The Municipality of Milan held in 2022 an International Design Competition for the creation of a new site for the Teatro alla Scala laboratories and warehouses and for the expansion of Parco della Lambretta with the aim of regenerating the area located in the Lambrate district, once occupied by the Innocenti automobile plant. The project provides an ecological connection and a landscape relationship with the surroundings. A very compact type of building was chosen allowing not only maximum distributional efficiency for staff, visitors, and goods, but also maximum efficiency in terms of energy and land consumption. The result of this choice is to be able to dedicate the buildable land along Via Caduti di Marcinelle to the extension of the Lambretta Park, substantially increasing the permeable surface of the intervention and at the same time creating a real interpenetration between the park and the Magnifica Fabbrica. The design takes into consideration the entire life cycle of the building moving from the approach that materials represent a value to be safeguarded. Thanks to the planned assembly systems most of the materials can be separated by type making them recyclable. This approach transforms the building into a repository of raw materials with very long life cycles. In particular, the extensive use of wood is planned, in combination with steel for structural parts and glass for facades, limiting the use of reinforced concrete to a minimum.
